Line Pipe supplied by GAM Steel
Line pipe is typically used in applications where material needs to be pumped and transported. Applications like water systems, and gas or oil pumping systems use line pipe products and associated fittings.
Available in two forms, line pipe is sold as seamless pipe and ERW pipe. Seamless pipe is manufactured by heating a solid bar or steel billet and probing a hole through the centre to create a pipe product with a set diameter and wall thickness. Welded pipe or ERW pipe is made with a process called electric resistance welding that involves taking a flat steel product and rolling it into a pipe section and finishing by applying an electric current through the product to form a seam.
Seamless pipe is able to withstand intense pressures and corrosive environments, due to the nature of its manufacture, and the resulting seamless pipe having no welds or seams reducing potential weakness in the pipe. ERW pipes have a high degree of accuracy in their manufacturing process, they also have a high level of impact resistance. ERW pipe is used in many applications in construction, but also in emerging industries like solar tracking in renewable energy.
